Last Wednesday 13th May Wollongong City Council held a morning tea to raise funds and awareness for Lupus.
The event was the inspiration of Council’s in house lawyer, Raylee Golding, my friend and colleague in the Legal Division, who wanted to do something to show her support for me as I went through a rough time after being diagnosed with Lupus in September last year.
The show of support was terrific with around 30 people baking delicious goodies to sell on the day and around 70 people attending the morning tea itself. We also had a generous $50 donation from our foyer coffee cart operator – Ka-fe – who agreed to donate 50% of every coffee sold to those attending the morning tea.
The morning tea, together with funds collected from selling merchandise, raised over $700, a pretty good effort (we thought) for a first time event in support of an illness no one knew much about.
We couldn’t be more pleased. Apart from the money raised we really feel we have made a significant contribution towards expanding knowledge about Lupus here in Wollongong.
